This forecast answers the question every aurora photographer asks: "Can I actually see the aurora tonight?" Unlike simple Kp forecasts, we combine NOAA's OVATION aurora model with real-time cloud cover, visibility, and darkness data to predict true viewing conditions.

Scotland offers the best aurora viewing in the British Isles. The Shetland Islands, at 60°N, sit at a similar latitude to Bergen, Norway, and regularly see aurora displays. Even the Scottish mainland, from the Highlands to the Borders, can experience spectacular shows during strong geomagnetic events.

Aurora viewing in Scotland peaks September through March. Cloud cover is the main challenge—our forecast helps you identify the rare clear nights when aurora activity coincides with good visibility.
