Rule Templates
Rule templates provide pre-built weather rules for common photography scenarios. Instead of building rules from scratch, you can use expertly crafted templates and apply them to your locations.
How Rule Templates Work
Section titled “How Rule Templates Work”Templates are pre-configured rules that you can instantly add to your account. Each template includes:
- Weather conditions optimized for specific photography scenarios
- Time windows and astronomical timing requirements
- Documentation explaining when to use the template

Using Templates
Section titled “Using Templates”Creating Rules from Templates
Section titled “Creating Rules from Templates”- Go to the Rules page in your dashboard
- Click Add Rule to start creating a new rule
- Browse available system templates and select one that matches your photography needs
- The template creates a new rule in your Rules library that you can customize and enable at your locations
Template Conditions
Section titled “Template Conditions”System templates use PhotoWeather’s complete rule system:
- All 25+ weather measurements
- 9 photography-specific calculated conditions
- Astronomical timing (golden hour, blue hour, etc.)
- Solar position requirements
- Logical operators (AND, OR, NOT)
Example Template
Section titled “Example Template”The Dense Fog template triggers when:
- Fog probability is 85% or higher
- Dewpoint spread is 2°C or less
- Visibility is 3km or less
- Wind speed is 2 m/s or less
Customizing Template-Created Rules
Section titled “Customizing Template-Created Rules”After creating a rule from a template:
- Go to your Rules page
- Find the newly created rule
- Edit conditions, time windows, or settings as needed
- Enable/disable the rule for specific locations
- Set notification preferences
