Email Setup

Get notified by email when weather conditions are perfect for photography. PhotoWeather now offers two main notification types: daily digest emails (for all users) and pre-opportunity reminders (Plus/Pro plans only). This guide shows you how to set up and customize your email notifications.

Verify Your Email First

  1. Sign up for PhotoWeather with your email address
  2. Check your inbox for a verification email
  3. Click the verification link to activate notifications
  4. Add noreply@mail.photoweather.app to your contacts

If you don’t see the verification email, check your spam folder and use the “Resend” option in your dashboard.

Access Your Settings

  1. Log in to your PhotoWeather account
  2. Go to User Profile > Notification Settings
  3. Customize your email preferences

Daily Digest Emails (All Users)

  • Summary of upcoming photography opportunities for the next 1-7 days (based on your plan)
  • Delivered at your preferred time

Pre-Opportunity Reminders (Plus/Pro Plans Only)

  • Timely alerts sent 1-24 hours before each photography opportunity

System Updates

  • App updates, new features, and service announcements

Important: Security and billing-related emails cannot be disabled for security reasons. If you do not want to receive any emails at all, you can delete your PhotoWeather account.

Daily Digest (All Users)

  • One comprehensive email delivered at your preferred time (default 8:00 AM)
  • Includes photography opportunities for the next 1-7 days based on your subscription plan
  • Free Plan: Next 1 day of opportunities
  • Plus Plan: Next 1-3 days of opportunities (configurable)
  • Pro Plan: Next 1-7 days of opportunities (configurable)
  • Perfect for planning your photography sessions in advance

Pre-Opportunity Reminders (Plus/Pro Plans Only)

  • Individual alerts sent 1-24 hours before each photography opportunity
  • Configurable timing (1, 2, 4, 8, 12, or 24 hours before the opportunity)
  • Latest weather updates and any forecast changes
  • Ideal for last-minute preparation and gear planning
  • Available only with Plus and Pro subscriptions

Forecast Accuracy Notice

  • Forecasts beyond 3 days become less accurate
  • The system will show warnings when selecting longer forecast periods
  • Consider upgrading to calendar integration for longer-term planning

Control when you receive notifications to prevent interruptions during sleep, work, or other busy periods.

How It Works

  • Set specific hours when you don’t want notifications (like 10 PM to 8 AM)
  • All opportunities are saved and delivered when quiet hours end
  • Works with overnight periods and automatically adjusts for daylight saving time

Setup

  1. Go to User Profile > Notification Settings
  2. Find the Quiet Hours section
  3. Set your start and end times
  4. Changes save automatically

Not Getting Emails?

  • Make sure your email is verified (look for a verification banner)
  • Check your spam or junk email folder
  • Add noreply@mail.photoweather.app to your contacts
  • Verify notifications are turned on in your settings
  • Send a test email from User Profile > Notification Settings > Email Test to check delivery

Wrong Timing?

  • Check that your account timezone is correct in User Profile settings
  • Review your quiet hours settings
  • Verify your daily digest time setting
  • Use the test feature to verify when your next notification would be sent

Too Many Emails?

  • Make your photography rules more specific to reduce opportunities
  • Disable pre-opportunity reminders if you only want daily planning
  • Use quiet hours during times you’re not available for photography
  • Adjust your forecast lookahead days to a shorter period

Too Few Emails?

  • Check that your photography rules are enabled for your locations
  • Verify your rules match the weather conditions you want
  • Make sure your rules aren’t too restrictive
  • Consider increasing your forecast lookahead days (if your plan allows)

Want More Timely Alerts?

  • Upgrade to Plus or Pro plans to access pre-opportunity reminders
  • Set shorter reminder times (1-4 hours) for quick response opportunities

Once your email notifications are set up:

  1. Add your photography locations - Set up the spots where you want to monitor weather
  2. Create your first rule - Define what weather conditions trigger alerts
  3. Set up calendar integration - Automatically add opportunities to your calendar
