The region's mountains—from the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the Green Mountains of Vermont—also generate valley fog that transforms familiar scenes into ethereal compositions.

What makes New England fog photography exceptional:

  • Maritime fog - Cold Atlantic waters generate thick fog banks that roll inland, especially in Maine and coastal Massachusetts
  • White Mountains valleys - Notches and valleys trap morning mist that burns off by mid-morning, creating dramatic reveal moments
  • Covered bridge fog - Vermont and New Hampshire's iconic covered bridges emerge from fog like scenes from another century
