This forecast predicts when fog and mist conditions create atmospheric scenes in Morocco's mountain regions and cedar forests. We track overnight cooling, humidity, wind speed, and topography to identify when morning fog transforms the Atlas Mountains, Rif foothills, and high-altitude forests.

While Morocco is famous for desert landscapes, its mountain regions—particularly the Middle Atlas around Ifrane and the Rif Mountains around Chefchaouen—experience regular fog conditions during cooler months. The combination of altitude, cedar and oak forests, and mountain topography creates temperature inversions and moisture patterns that produce atmospheric fog scenes.

  • Cedar forest mystery - Ancient Atlas cedar forests at Ifrane transform into fairytale scenes when morning fog drifts through trees
  • Blue city in mist - Chefchaouen's blue-painted buildings emerge from fog in the Rif Mountain foothills
  • Mountain valleys - High Atlas valleys near Imlil fill with fog while peaks rise above into clear morning light
  • Alpine contrast - Morocco's "Switzerland" around Ifrane offers unexpected mountain town fog scenes

Ifrane and the surrounding Middle Atlas cedar forests provide Morocco's most reliable fog photography. At over 1,600 meters elevation, morning fog frequently drifts through ancient cedar groves, creating mysterious forest scenes with twisted trees emerging from mist. The area's Swiss-style architecture adds unexpected elements when fog settles over the town. Nearby Azrou's cedar forests and resident Barbary macaques create unique fog compositions. Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains benefits from its 600-meter elevation—morning fog occasionally settles over the blue-painted medina, creating ethereal scenes as blue walls emerge from mist. Imlil and High Atlas valleys experience fog inversions where valleys fill with fog while Berber villages remain clear, with Toubkal rising above. Fog conditions are most common November through March. Atlas locations require early starts—fog typically burns off by mid-morning.
