Introducing PhotoStats: Free Lightroom Catalog Analytics

I’ve built a new free tool for photographers: PhotoStats.

PhotoStats opens your Adobe Lightroom Classic catalog file directly in your browser and shows you the shooting data that Lightroom doesn’t surface on its own — gear usage patterns, shooting frequency trends, rating distributions by equipment, and more.

What It Does

Drop your .lrcat catalog file onto the page and PhotoStats gives you six views into your photography:

Overview Dashboard — Total photos, date range, shooting frequency over time, and your most-used cameras and lenses at a glance.

Gear Breakdown — Which cameras and lenses you actually use, how often, and in which combinations. Great for figuring out what earns its place in your bag versus what sits on a shelf.

Shooting Heatmap — A contribution-style calendar showing your shooting frequency across months and years. Spot seasonal patterns and see how consistently you’re getting out with the camera.

Drilldown Explorer — Filter by date range, camera, or lens to answer specific questions. “How many photos did I take with this lens last year?” “When did I stop using that camera body?”

Comparison Tool — Compare two time periods side by side. Track how your volume and gear preferences shift over time.

Rating Analysis — See which camera-and-lens combinations produce your highest-rated photos. Let the data tell you what gear delivers your best work.

Privacy First

PhotoStats runs entirely in your browser using SQLite WASM. Your catalog file never leaves your machine — no uploads, no accounts, no tracking. It works offline after the initial page load.

It handles catalogs from small hobby collections to 500,000+ photos.

Why I Built It

PhotoWeather helps you plan when to shoot. PhotoStats helps you understand how you shoot. Together they cover both sides: getting out at the right time, and learning from what you’ve captured.

If you’ve ever wondered which lens actually gets the most use, whether you shoot more in winter or summer, or which gear produces your best-rated images — PhotoStats answers those questions in seconds.

Try It

Head to photostats.app, drop in your Lightroom catalog, and see what your data reveals. It’s completely free, no sign-up required.
